FIRST GENERATION is a documentary feature film chronicling the journey of students who are first in their family attempting to attend college.

First generation and low-income students represent less than 10% of college students at our nation’s 146 most selective universities, and with education being the most significant means of rising into another socio-economic class our system makes it extremely difficult for students to break out of the cycle of poverty. Those with the courage to do so face problems of access, affordability, and guidance.

For these students education is not a given. They come from abusive situations, families where one or both parents are serving jail time, communities ridden with gang and drug violence, or homes crippled by poverty.

In the educational revolution, raising public awareness is the first step in prompting change. By documenting these dramatic stories and sharing them with the world, we are ensuring the next generation of students won’t have to journey alone.
